Young Priests in Tamil Nadu Region Embrace Spiritual Development

Yercaud, June 26, 2024: The Catholic Diocesan Priests’ Institute of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry (CDPI–TN & PY) hosted a 2 day on-going Formation and Renewal programme for young priests in the month of June. The programme took place at San Jose Convent, Yercaud, where 18 participants from eight dioceses actively participated in sessions aimed at strengthening their pastoral skills and spiritual journey.


Rev Fr. Chrispin Boniface, Secretary of the Vocation Service Commission at the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council (TNBC) inaugurated the session. Addressing the theme "The traps and hurdles on the way," he emphasized the challenges posed by the misuse of mobile phones and other modern gadgets, which can lead to deviations from the priestly path. Rev Fr. James Vincent of the Vellore Diocese stressed on the importance of learning from senior priests and gaining valuable pastoral experience within parish settings. Rev Fr. Roy Lazar and Rev Fr. Stanley Sahaya Seelan, President and Secretary respectively, highlighted the significance of building fraternal relationships with fellow priests. They facilitated group discussions under the guidance of Rev Fr. Joseph Santiago CMF from Sacred Heart College, Dindigul and provided a platform for participants to exchange insights and experiences. 


Rev Fr. Santiago CMF also led a session on identifying and addressing psychological burnout among young priests, offering practical solutions for personal, interpersonal, and spiritual challenges they may encounter. Rev Fr. Charles Leon, Secretary of the Vocation Service Commission and CDPI, explained the formation of the Conference of Catholic Bishops in India (CCBI) and CDPI and discussed the strategic goals for Jubilee 2033. He guided the young priests in mapping their spiritual growth, encouraging them to deepen their priestly spirituality.


The young priests were renewed with enthusiasm and a deeper commitment to their vocation, eager to continue their journey with dedication.
