Sr. Pauline Augustine Elected New Superior General of St. Ann’s, Luzern

Hyderabad, 8 September 2024: Sr. Pauline Augustine Kampakathunkal, (58), has been elected the new Superior General of the Society of Sisters of St. Ann, Luzern. The election took place during the congregation’s fifth General Chapter at their Generalate in Secunderabad, Telangana. Sr. Pauline, currently the Provincial Superior of the Bangalore Province, will now lead the society.


Born on October 13, 1965, in Cheenikuzhi, Thodupuzha, Kerala, Sr. Pauline is the seventh of eight children of Mr. K.A. Augustine and Mrs. Rosa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and began her professional journey as a teacher in Kovvuru, Andhra Pradesh.


Sr. Pauline joined the Society of Sisters of St. Ann in June 1990, taking her first vows on November 21, 1994. Her involvement in education started in 1995 when she became the principal of St. Ann’s School, Panagudi, Tirunelveli district, a role she held for over a decade. She continued her service as the principal of St. Ann’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madhavaram, Chennai, until 2006.


In 2010, Sr. Pauline was elected as Provincial Superior of the Bangalore Province, leading the province for two consecutive terms. After her tenure, she returned to education, spearheading the establishment of an ICSE school while serving as the principal of St. Ann’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Panagudi in Tamil Nadu.


Her leadership abilities were recognized once again in 2023, when she was re-elected as Provincial Superior of the Bangalore Province, a position she held until her recent election as Superior General.


Founded in 1909 by Fr. Wilhelm Meyer in Switzerland, the Society of Sisters of St. Ann, Luzern, began its mission in India in 1927. Today, the society operates across three provinces in India, with 1,234 sisters serving in over 52 dioceses.
