Vatican City, January 6, 2025: Pope Francis, during his Angelus address on the Solemnity of the Epiphany, encouraged children worldwide to actively participate in their Christian mission by praying and showing solidarity with their peers. This call to action came on January 6, which is also observed as World Missionary Childhood Day by the Catholic Church.
The theme for this year’s edition of World Missionary Childhood Day is “Go and invite everyone to the Banquet!” It highlights the importance of spreading the Christian message in simple and impactful ways. The Pope urged children to extend their prayers and support to those in need, especially their peers from other continents, emphasizing the global nature of their mission.
Instituted in 1950 by Pope Pius XII, World Missionary Childhood Day aims to underscore the vital role children play in fostering spiritual growth and compassion within their communities. By engaging in prayer and acts of kindness, young Christians can contribute to the Church’s mission of love and service.
During his Angelus address, Pope Francis also extended his prayers to Eastern Christians celebrating Christmas on January 7, following the Julian calendar. He expressed solidarity with those suffering from ongoing conflicts in war-torn regions, calling on Jesus, the “Prince of Peace,” to bring serenity and reconciliation to afflicted nations.
The Pope’s message resonates as a reminder of the power of collective prayer and the responsibility of all, regardless of age, to work toward a more peaceful and compassionate world.
