Pope Leo Writes to a Mother: Entrust Yourself to Mary in Times of Uncertainty

Vatican City, August 20, 2025 — Pope Leo XIV encouraged a mother to place her trust in the Virgin Mary as a guiding light in times of uncertainty, in a personal response published in the latest issue of Piazza San Pietro, the monthly magazine of the Basilica of St. Peter.

The Holy Father replied to a letter from Laura, a wife and mother of three, who shared both her joys and the difficulties she faces in living her faith. Despite describing her Christian faith as “stronger than ever,” Laura confided that she sometimes feels shaken by temptation and questioned whether her faith is truly firm.

In his reply, Pope Leo affirmed her sincerity and commitment, writing: “Your enthusiasm for the faith and the truth of your heart are a blessing for you and your family. If your point of reference is Mary, you will be able to face every uncertainty. Sharing projects of Christian love is fundamental for spiritual progress and for cooperating with the grace and the will of God.”

The Pope’s message was published on Monday alongside a press release from the magazine’s editorial staff.

The August edition of Piazza San Pietro also explores themes of dialogue, rest, peace, and unity. Among its features is a special focus on the upcoming Meeting of Fraternity in Rome on September 12–13, which will highlight encounter and closeness through dialogue. The issue further examines the consistent thread of peace running through the papacies from Leo XIII to Leo XIV, and includes an editorial by Father Enzo Fortunato titled “Rest, Fraternity, and Peace”, reflecting on summer as a season of renewal.
