Karnataka Regional BECs Review Meeting Focuses on Strengthening Faith Communities

Bangalore, February 8, 2025 – The Karnataka Regional Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) Review Meeting took place at the Subodhana Regional Pastoral Centre in Bangalore on February 5, bringing together diocesan BEC secretaries from across Karnataka state. Presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, and facilitated by Fr. Maxim Dias, Regional Secretary, the meeting aimed to review the activities of Karnataka Regional BECs, discuss challenges, and finalize a strategic regional action plan.

During the session, diocesan BEC secretaries presented detailed reports of their initiatives over the past six months, highlighting both achievements and obstacles. A significant part of the discussions during the meeting centred around the Regional Pastoral Plan, ensuring that the mission of BECs aligns with the broader goals of the Church.

After extensive discussions, a regional action plan was finalized. The plan included valuable suggestions received from the participants. Another significant decision made at the meeting was to develop a handbook in Kannada, which will serve as a practical guide for BEC activities.

During the meeting, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha commended the dedication and leadership of diocesan secretaries and urged them to continue their mission with faith and hope. He also reiterated the Church’s role as a “field hospital,” emphasizing the importance of reaching out to those in need and offering necessary support to them.

The review meeting served as a crucial step in reinforcing the mission of BECs across Karnataka. The discussions and decisions taken during the meeting are expected to foster greater collaboration among diocesan secretaries and provide essential resources for BEC members, ensuring they thrive as vibrant communities of faith and service.
