Jaipur Diocese Hosts First Catholic Mental Health Ministry Conference

Jaipur, 23 March 2025 – The Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) of the Jaipur Diocese held its first conference on 16 March for parish team members at the Pastoral Centre, Ghat Gate, Jaipur. The event brought together 36 participants from various parishes, along with executive members Sr. Aruna Peter, MSA (Secretary, CMHM), Mrs. Neelam Chopra, and Mrs. Veena Michael.


The conference began with the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Joseph Kallarackal, with Fr. Jaypal, CMHM Director, and Assistant Director Fr. Melvin D’Souza concelebrating. In his welcome address, Fr. Jaypal emphasised the importance of mental health ministry in promoting well-being and quality of life.


Dr. Sr. Rani Augustine, MSA, Regional Director, spoke on the need for mental health awareness and the Church’s role in holistic family development.


The keynote session, led by Dr. Sr. Elizabeth from the Congregation of the Sacred Heart, focused on mental health and common illnesses. A specialist in Clinical Psychology, she highlighted how mental health issues impact personal and family life. The interactive session helped participants clarify doubts and gain deeper insights.


In his closing address, Bishop Kallarackal stressed collaboration, innovation, and strategic planning to strengthen Catholic healthcare in the diocese. He urged the community to respond wisely to modern challenges.


The conference successfully raised awareness and fostered dialogue, marking a significant step forward for mental health ministry in the Jaipur Diocese.
