Faith Formation Seminar Empowers Catechism and Moral Science Teachers in Bellary

Bellary, Karnataka, July 20, 2025:

The Diocese of Bellary hosted a dynamic and spiritually enriching Faith Formation Seminar for Catechism and Moral Science teachers on 19th July 2025. Organised under the leadership of Fr Suresh, Secretary of the Diocesan Catechism Commission, and Fr Arogya Dani, Joint Secretary, the event delivered both theological depth and practical insight for educators committed to faith-based teaching.

The day commenced with a prayer, setting a reflective and enthusiastic tone for the proceedings. In his welcome address, Fr Suresh underlined the pivotal role teachers play in nurturing the moral and spiritual development of children. He then introduced the keynote speaker, Fr Vinay Kumar, Regional Secretary for Liturgy and Interreligious Dialogue in Karnataka, who was warmly welcomed by attendees.

Fr Vinay conducted the formation session with clarity and conviction, drawing on foundational Church documents such as Catechesi Tradendae, Evangelii Nuntiandi, and Sacrosanctum Concilium. He highlighted the powerful role that meaningful liturgical celebrations play in enhancing parish-based faith formation, stressing the intrinsic link between liturgical practice and catechesis. According to Fr Vinay, a well-celebrated liturgy becomes a "living catechism" that strengthens the community’s faith, especially among the youth.

He challenged participants to transcend conventional textbook methods and instead become living witnesses to the values they teach. Emphasising the importance of relevance and engagement in the classroom, he encouraged educators to incorporate storytelling, liturgical symbols, and real-life contexts into their lessons to make moral and catechetical instruction more impactful.

Educators and coordinators from various schools and parishes across the three deaneries of Lingasugur, Sindhanur, and Raichur took part in the seminar. In total, 47 participants attended, actively engaging in discussions and exchanging creative strategies and challenges encountered in their teaching journeys. The event fostered a sense of community and collaboration, allowing teachers to support and inspire one another.

The seminar concluded with a fellowship meal, reflecting the spirit of communion and mutual encouragement among the faith educators. Attendees widely appreciated the seminar for its fresh pedagogical approach, spiritual grounding, and practical relevance in contemporary teaching settings.

This initiative marked a renewed commitment within the Diocese of Bellary to strengthen the ministry of catechesis and moral education through empowering and equipping teachers to be both effective instructors and authentic role models.
