The Diocesan Youth Centre (DYC) in Goa stands as a pillar of faith, growth, and service, dedicated to shaping the spiritual and social development of young Catholics in the state. Rooted in Christian teachings and values, the Centre strives to foster a vibrant youth community that contributes actively to society and strengthens the Church’s mission of spreading the word of God. Headquartered at St. John Paul II Complex in Madgaon, Goa, the Centre extends a warm welcome to all young Catholics who are eager to grow in faith, engage in fellowship, and serve their communities.
DYC-Goa offers a range of dynamic programs designed to support the spiritual, intellectual, and social development of the youth. These initiatives aim to strengthen their relationship with Christ and live out their faith while actively contributing to the community.
Key initiatives by DYC include:
Youth Ex-Co Programme: This program focuses on equipping young Catholics with the skills necessary to serve their communities effectively, fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership.
Nature A-Live: An initiative dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices among young people.
DEXCO: A training and mentoring program that prepares young Catholics for leadership positions within the diocese.
Additionally, the DYC organizes events such as youth retreats, the All Goa Youth Football Tournament, Parish Youth Formation programs, and Deanery Level Programs, which further engage the youth at the parish and regional levels.
One of the Centre’s most significant events is the Diocesan Youth Day (DYD), and the 2024 edition, held on 15th December at Taleigao, Goa, proved to be an extraordinary celebration of youth ministry. With the theme "Be the Message of Hope," the event attracted over 3,000 young participants from across Goa, including Daman and the North East, creating a moment of unity and spiritual enrichment.
The day began at 8:00 a.m. with registration, where participants received a thoughtfully curated DYD kit that included a pilgrim cross locket, a booklet, a pen, and a water bottle. The event featured activity stalls, photo booths, and performances by the DYC Dance Team and Band, which uplifted the participants' spirits. Dr. Vijay, a professor at St. Xavier’s College in Mapusa, delivered an inspiring talk on Social Media and Youth Ministry, which resonated deeply with the youth.
A highlight of the day was the procession of the Pilgrim Cross and a portrait of Mother Mary, led by Fr. Blaise Lobo, Director, DYC-Goa along with youth representatives. This was followed by a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Maria Anthony, Youth Director of Delhi Archdiocese, with around 30 priests concelebrating the Mass. The homily by Fr. John Barman, Regional Youth Director of the North East, brought a powerful message of hope and faith.
The day also included a special felicitation ceremony to honor Mr. Elvis Noronha, the carpenter who crafted the Pilgrim Cross. After a delightful lunch, participants enjoyed deanery-wise dance covers of the DYD theme song.
The Diocesan Youth Day 2024 concluded with an activity led by Fr. Blaise that encouraged participants to build new friendships, reinforcing the theme of hope and togetherness. The event left everyone spiritually enriched and inspired to carry the message of hope back to their communities.
The Diocesan Youth Centre – Goa continues to make a profound impact on the lives of young Catholics in Goa by nurturing their faith, leadership skills, and commitment to service. Through its various programs and events, the Centre is empowering a new generation to embrace their role as active, faith-driven leaders in the Church and in the world.
