Chikmagalur Diocese Commemorates Four Decades of Faithful Service of Bishop T. Anthony Swamy

Chikmagalur, September 19, 2024: The Diocese of Chikmagalur marked a historic milestone with the celebration of the Ruby Jubilee of Bishop T. Anthony Swamy of Chikmagalur and Fr. Henry Madtha's priestly ordinations. The event held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on September 16 brought together clergy, religious and laypeople from the diocese and beyond.


The day’s events included a Thanksgiving Eucharist presided over by Bishop Swamy with Fr. Madtha concelebrating, as the diocese gathered to express their gratitude for 40 years of dedicated priestly service. There were 82 priests present for the celebration and around 1600 people were present for the Eucharistic celebration and for the felicitation programme.


Followed by a grand felicitation program where priests, religious sisters, dignitaries and lay representatives honoured the Bishop’s contributions to the diocese, particularly in fostering spiritual growth and social development. Speakers highlighted his compassionate leadership and the lasting positive impact he has had on the local community.


In his speech, Bishop Swamy thanked the diocese for their support and reiterated his pledge to continue serving with renewed energy. The event was organized under the leadership of Msgr. Elias Sequeira and a dedicated committee.


The diocese looks forward to continuing its growth under the pastoral guidance of Bishop Anthony Swamy, as he leads the community with faith, hope and love.
