Mumbai, November 15, 2024: Ahead of Maharashtra's state elections on November 20, Cardinal Oswald Gracias, the Archbishop of Bombay, has called on Catholics and Christians across the state to actively participate in the democratic process. Emphasizing the sacred duty of voting, the Cardinal urged citizens to cast their votes with conscience, fostering peace, progress and unity within the nation.
Cardinal Gracias reminds voters to confirm their inclusion in the electoral roll and prepare to exercise their right to vote. He reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s neutral stance on political parties, advocating for informed decisions guided by values that strengthen India’s democratic ideals.
Reflecting on the principles of Equality, Liberty and Fraternity enshrined in the Indian Constitution, the Cardinal highlighted the importance of promoting harmony and rejecting hatred or violence. He stated that the nation thrives when people of all backgrounds coexist peacefully, respecting the dreams of its founding leaders.
