Aland Town Celebrates Christmas with Unity and Joy

Aland, a small town in Kalaburagi district of North Karnataka, under the jurisdiction of Gulbarga Diocese, witnessed a unique and heartwarming celebration of Christmas this year. Despite not having a single Catholic family in the region, the mission station, which began just eight years ago, brought together people from all walks of life to share in the joy and message of Christmas.

Under the dynamic leadership of Fr. Bapu, director of the mission, a public celebration titled "CHRISTMAS SAMBRAMA" (Joy of Christmas) was organized. As part of the celebration, a beautiful public crib was set up at a prominent location in front of the KSRTC bus stand in Aland, symbolizing peace, hope, and unity.

The event was inaugurated by Shri Koruneshwara Swamiji from Anubhavamantapa in Aland. In his inspiring address, Swamiji emphasized that Jesus Christ came into this world to bring peace, and it is our responsibility to live out this peace in our communities. He encouraged everyone to respect one another and uphold harmony among all religions.

Mrs. Pooja Lohar, a former Zilla Panchayat member, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the need for unity. “We must all live as brothers and sisters, fostering harmony and mutual respect”, she said.

In his message, Fr. Bapu shared the significance of Christmas, proclaiming that Jesus Christ, born in a humble manger, is the light of the world. He emphasized that Christ’s love and joy transcend boundaries, inviting everyone to walk in His footsteps.

The event was further enlivened with Christmas carols led by Sr. Juliana, Principal of St. Mary School, and her team, spreading the festive spirit and wishing joy to all present. To deepen the understanding of Christmas, banners were displayed explaining the importance of the crib, the graces it symbolizes, the meaning of the Christmas star, the history of the Christmas tree, and the story of Santa Claus. These served as an informative and engaging way for visitors to grasp the essence of Christmas.

Religious leaders from various faiths and local officials graced the event and paid homage to Baby Jesus, a gesture that highlighted the spirit of interfaith harmony. Over 2,000 people from different religions visited the crib, bowing before Baby Jesus and seeking blessings. Each visitor was warmly offered a piece of cake as a token of goodwill and love.

The celebration, which lasted from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, was a moving testament to the unity and harmony that Christmas brings. It was truly a sight to behold—people of diverse faiths and backgrounds coming together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
