Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025: An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff on Thursday afternoon, around the Meghani Nagar area near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The crash occurred at approximately 2:20 PM IST, with 243 individuals onboard at the time, including passengers and crew. Emergency response teams, including firefighters and medical personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene as plumes of smoke billowed from the wreckage.
The flight, operating as a scheduled international service to London, had just departed the airport when it went down under still-unclear circumstances. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by flames and heavy smoke rising near the crash site. Rescue operations are currently underway, with injured individuals being rushed to nearby hospitals.
Local authorities have cordoned off the area, and aviation experts are on-site to assess the situation. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air India officials are expected to release more details as investigations progress.
No official word has yet been given on casualties or the cause of the crash. Families of those onboard have been directed to a dedicated helpline and support center established by Air India at the Ahmedabad airport.
