Vatican City, May 24, 2026: During his final Regina Caeli address of 2026, Pope Leo XIV urged Catholics to invoke the Holy Spirit to help build a more fraternal world where peace prevails, calling for hearts and communities to remain open to God and one another.
Addressing the faithful gathered in St Peter’s Square on 24 May, the Pope reflected on the role of the Holy Spirit in opening “closed doors” in the lives of individuals and in the mission of the Church. He encouraged believers to rediscover God as a loving Father so that the Church can become a place where everyone feels welcome.
The Pope identified three “doors” that the Holy Spirit opens. The first, he said, is the door to an encounter with God, where faith becomes a personal experience rather than simply the observance of rules. He explained that the Holy Spirit helps believers recognise God’s presence in everyday life and deepen their relationship with Christ.
The second door, he said, is that of the Church itself. Pope Leo stressed that the Holy Spirit removes fear and hesitation, enabling the Church to respond to the challenges of modern times and become more open and welcoming.
He reiterated the need for a Church that embraces all people, including those who may have distanced themselves from God, hope and faith.
Turning to the third door — the human heart — the Pope said the Holy Spirit helps people overcome selfishness, mistrust and prejudice. He emphasised that fraternity grows when individuals recognise one another as brothers and sisters.
“The language of love” should unite people despite differences, he said, adding that true fraternity emerges wherever the Spirit is present.
Pope Leo concluded by encouraging the faithful to continue praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, saying its presence can help create a world marked by peace, harmony and deeper human solidarity.
