Church Leaders in Agra Region Convene for Strategic Pastoral Review

Varanasi, Nov 14, 2025: Church leaders from across the Agra region gathered for a two-day annual meeting at the Nav Sadhana Regional Pastoral Centre in Varanasi on November 12 and 13. The gathering, which brought together Bishops, Major Superiors, CRI members, and priests’ council representatives, focused on strategic growth, spiritual renewal, and greater collaboration to strengthen pastoral service in the region.

The Holy Eucharist celebrated by Bishop Raphy Manjaly of Agra, set a reverent tone for the proceedings. In his keynote address, Bishop Bhaskar Jesus Raj of Meerut emphasised the value of strategic pastoral planning inspired by biblical foundations. He called for a vision that aligns with both the Region’s mission and national directives. Contributing to the discussions, Fr. Joe Xavier SJ urged participants to discern the Spirit’s direction and collaboratively formulate a Regional Plan consistent with the CCBI’s national framework.

The inaugural day also featured a moment of prayer led by Bishop Wilfred Gregory Moras of Jhansi, invoking divine guidance for the deliberations. It further included a vibrant cultural segment, where students of Nav Sadhana presented performances depicting biblical parables and the Resurrection through dance, offering a creative reflection of faith.

Bishop Gerald John Mathias of Lucknow, on the concluding day, celebrated the Holy Eucharist. Regional Commission Secretaries then presented detailed pastoral plans for the Agra Region, with Bishop Ignatius D’Souza of Bareilly moderating the session. Leading the final evaluation and discussion, Bishop Raphy Manjaly of Agra and Bishop Eugene Joseph of Varanasi culminated the session in a comprehensive review of the Region’s pastoral plan.
